People often ask me what they should share on Facebook, where to draw the line. In some ways, the answer is personal, that “you are what you share,” so you need to consider your own brand.
Me? I follow the Corporate Golf Cart Rule of Content Creation:
If I would say it in a Golf Cart at a Corporate Outing to a someone on the 5th Hole that I just met over coffee and a danish that morning, then it’s okay to post that on Facebook.
Essentially, it boils down to this:
- Be interested in others.
- Share good stories — but keep them short.
- Be personable but not overly personal.
- Be honest, but don’t tell secrets. Ever.
- Don’t ditz your boss, co-workers, competitors… or anyone, really.
Don’t see a rule that applies to what you’re thinking about posting today? Look closer.
Bottom line: The world is very small. Always behave. If you don’t, people will talk about you — and that can cost you business!
